Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival , September 1-5

Each year at the beginning of September, this massive event launches balloons of all shapes, sizes and colours over the Ottawa-Gatineau region, and offers concerts, fireworks, amusement rides and more.

Watch giant balloons lift off from the festival grounds or take a ride in one and drift over the Ottawa-Gatineau region. After dark, some of the balloons are lit up during night flights!

The festival also hosts live entertainment for kids and adults, including popular and emerging musical acts from Quebec, Canada and beyond. Other family-friendly fun on site includes a carnival amusement park, fireworks, buskers and more.

The Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival (Festival des montgolfièresde Gatineau, or FMG) is held in the large Parc de la Baie in Gatineau, Quebec (less than a 15-minute drive from downtown Ottawa).

Note: In 2022, the show is presented Thursday through Monday evenings, and includes a special segment to mark the Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Five nights a week in the summer months, you can enjoy a free, 30-minute multimedia show presented against the backdrop of the iconic Parliament Buildings in Canada’s capital.
The Sound and Light Show on Parliament Hill – Northern Lights, takes you on an unforgettable audiovisual journey through Canada’s history. Colourful visuals are projected on the Centre Block’s Peace Tower, accompanied by an original score and stirring narration in English and French. The show presents inspiring Canadian stories that showcase the foundations of our nation, innovation, exploration, valour, and the pride and vision of a people.
This annual tradition is presented on evenings from Thursdays through Mondays (weather dependent); show start times vary by month due to sunset times.

This five-day September celebration of music, dance and community at Lansdowne Park and throughout the Glebe area features an eclectic mix of musical performances on multiple stages.
Every year, Ottawa’s CityFolk festival offers more than 30 shows on indoor and outdoor stages. These range far beyond folk to encompass rock, alternative, bluegrass, hip hop, country and other musical genres—past acts have included everyone from Van Morrison and David Byrne to Lorde, Vampire Weekend, Robert Plant and Bon Iver.
On site, you can also discover new brews at the craft beer fair, shop for unique local products made by artisan and craft vendors, and even bring the kids for special children’s activities and family performances.
Festivities continue with the festival’s Marvest (“musical harvest”) program, which stages dozens of free shows by local musicians at locations across the lively Glebe neighbourhood.
