Canada Day in the Capital | July 1st, 2023
Various Locations

Parliament Hill has been the official Canada Day site for over 50 years. Due to the Centre Block Rehabilitation project, last year, the Canada Day main stage moved to a new locationโ€ฏjust 1.5 kilometre (less than one mile) to the west. Satellite experiences will be offered at the Parliamentary precinct area and at Portage.

Join the celebrations at LeBreton Flats Park and elsewhere in the heart of Ottawa โ€“ Gatineau! From 9 a.m., a number of activities, animations and shows presented by Canadian artists will give you a chance to celebrate throughout the day. Donโ€™t miss the Tim Hortons Canada day fireworks that will light up the sky as of 10 p.m.

 

Free Canada Day Concert with the NAC Orchestra | July 1st, 2023

RBC Bluesfest | July 6th โ€“ 16th, 2023

Every summer, some 300,000 music fans gather to see more than 200 acts on multiple stages. No wonder Billboard Magazine has ranked this event among the world’s top-10 outdoor music festivals!

Having long since moved beyond blues to showcase all sorts of music, Ottawa’s RBC Bluesfest is one of the largest international music events in the world. Crowds have cheered on performers ranging from Sting, Buddy Guy and Donna Summer to Skrillex, Kanye West, The White Stripes, the Dixie Chicks and Lady Gaga. The festival also showcases Canadian artists, like The Tragically Hip and Blue Rodeo, and many local acts.

Dance all day and long into the night at LeBreton Flats, a vast outdoor site next to the Canadian War Museum, just outside of downtown Ottawa. Between shows, fuel up with food and drink from a wide range of vendors and explore fun on-site activities. With hundreds of concerts spread out over almost two weeks in July, this massive festival offers something for just about every musical taste!

Changing of the Guardย 
Parliament Hill

Bring your camera to capture colourful photos of soldiers in scarlet uniforms and bearskin hats, as they carry out precise drills to the music of a military band on Parliament Hill. Daily from late June to late August, the impressiveโ€”and freeโ€”Changing of the Guard ceremony draws crowds to downtown Ottawa. If you arrive on the lawn of Parliament Hill by 9:45 a.m., you can hear an audio presentation in English and French that explains the symbolism, history and proceedings of the ceremony. Then listenโ€”in the distance, youโ€™ll hear soldiers and their band parading from the Cartier Square Drill Hall and along Elgin Street.

 

NCC Weekend Bikedays | Saturdays, Sundays & Holiday Mondays until October 8th

Ottawa REDBLACKS | May 26th โ€“ September 30th , 2023

The Sound and Light Show on Parliament Hill | July 7th – September 4th , 2023 (Thursday to Monday)

Five nights a week in the summer months, you can enjoy a free, 30-minute multimedia show presented against the backdrop of the iconic Parliament Buildings in Canada’s capital. The Sound and Light Show on Parliament Hill โ€“ Northern Lights, takes you on an unforgettable audiovisual journey through Canada’s history. Colourful visuals are projected on the Centre Blockโ€™s Peace Tower, accompanied by an original score and stirring narration in English and French. The show presents inspiring Canadian stories that showcase the foundations of our nation, innovation, exploration, valour, and the pride and vision of a people. This annual tradition is presented on evenings from Thursdays through Mondays (weather dependent); show start times vary by month due to sunset times.
