Ultimate Dog Sledding & Snowshoeing Trip | Winter 2024

Icelynd Skating Trails | Winter 2024

Icelynd (or “Icelyn” meaning “Ruler of the Winter storm”) is over 2 kilometres of exquisite trails of natural ice surface. The paths wind their way through almost 100 acres of beautiful natural woods. For a truly magical experience, Icelynd will be open in the evenings amongst the stars, and illuminated by charming twinkling white string lights, and natural solar lighting throughout. Bonfires, vendors, benches, and chairs to rest will dot the scenery making it the perfect setting to unwind and enjoy time with family and friends.

Enjoy free ice skating on a refrigerated ice surface 7 days a week from 9:00am to 11:00pm.
 

Rideau Canal Skateway 

Every winter, the Rideau Canal turns into the Rideau Canal Skateway, aka, the world’s largest skating rink! From roughly January to late February or March, you can skate any section of the 7.8 kilometres (4.8 miles) thanks to its universally accessible ramps and facilities. The ice must be 30 cm in thickness for the Rideau Canal Skateway to open. This means there needs to be about 10-14 straight days of -10 to -20 degree Celsius days in order for the quality of the ice to meet the standards of safe skating!

Experience the best the Canadian winter has to offer at the free Winterlude festival that takes place in the Ottawa region during the first three weekends of February each year! There is something for everyone to enjoy, from family-friendly activities, to group adventures and date nights!
Prepare to be astonished by stunning ice sculptures created by artists from around the world, skate on the world-famous Rideau Canal Skateway (a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and play around in a gigantic snow playground called Snowflake Kingdom.

Eiffel Bridge Illumination | Various Dates

This Winterlude, come take in Bridge of Lights: Echoes of the Eiffel Tower, a light show brought to you by the Embassy of France in Canada and the City of Gatineau, with support from Canadian Heritage, Tourisme Outaouais and Vision Centre-ville.

The 10-minute show runs continuously for an hour, allowing as many people as possible to witness the grand choreography of light that was part of the celebrations commemorating the 100th anniversary of Gustave Eiffel’s death. You’ll be able to see the projection from the bridge itself, the surrounding area or the skating rink on the Ruisseau de la Brasserie.

 

BeaverTails Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival | February 9-10, 2024
Dow’s Lake Ottawa

At the BeaverTails Ottawa Ice Dragon Boat Festival, international teams race beautifully decorated dragon boats on the world’s largest skating rink in downtown Ottawa. Cheer on participants as they push the long boats outfitted with special blades on the frozen Dows Lake portion of the Rideau Canal Skateway. This free, bucket-list-worthy festival typically also includes indoor performances by Canadian musicians.
Each year during Winterlude, the world’s largest ice dragon boat racing event attracts participants and spectators on the Rideau Canal Skateway.

Canadian Ski Marathon | February 9-11,2024

Founded in 1966, this is North America’s oldest cross-country skiing event, taking place in the beautiful Outaouais region. Skiers of all ages and abilities can register for distances ranging from 12km to 160km on classic groomed trails through a breathtaking winter landscape! This is not a timed race, but a personal ski adventure.
